Gemotions

The fishing rod felt heavy in my hands, the line taut against the current. The river flowed smoothly, the familiar gurgle of the water a soothing sound. I cast my line, watching the bobber drift lazily downstream. The email from my aunt, informing us of her conversion to Judaism, was still rattling around in the back of my mind.

I took a deep breath, filling my lungs with the fresh air. The sun was warm on my skin, and the world seemed to hold its breath with me. I wasn't rushing to digest the news. The present moment felt utterly complete.

A slight tug on the line. I focused, reeling it in slowly. Nothing seemed to have changed.
